Despite severe weather challenges, First Student completes a great start-up this school year.
School start-ups can be a challenge in itself. But no internet or phone service before, during and after a start-up, required one First Student Assistant Location Manager to think outside-the-box and take quick, decisive actions.
Weeks before Rantoul City Schools in Rantoul, Illinois were scheduled for their first day, a heavy thunderstorm knocked out phone and internet service in the area.
Determined to ensure the First Student location provided the best customer service to the district and its students, Assistant Location Manager Justin Schultz purchased a laptop computer and coordinated all student transports from his home that still had phone and internet service.
Rantoul City Schools Superintendent Michelle Ramage sent an email to First Student Senior Location Manager Toby Wolfe after the first day that read:
“Wanted to share the great news with you!
We had the most successful first day ever!
Busing is a huge part of that success as you know. I saw Justin this morning at Broadmeadow Elementary School and he was grinning from ear to ear. He was so proud of how the day was going. He was very positive. Having that added to the positive attitude we are all pressing hard for. PERFECTION!
I also want you to know that this week, leading up to our first day, consisted of late night calls to Justin from Darcy Widener (Information Systems Manager for Rantoul Schools). He kept Darcy calm and helped solve the problems. He never brushed her off, had solutions or knew who to call to get solutions. He has really grown into a good manager.
I know you don’t hear positive news much, but I did thank Justin today, in person, for this – for the late nights, the positive attitude, for everything.”
