First Student Supports 2011 School Board Recognition Month

January 6, 2011

CINCINNATI — Throughout the month of January, school districts and education professionals are showing their appreciation for their school board members by observing School Board Recognition Month. First Student, Inc., the nation’s leader in student transportation, joins the National School Boards Association (NSBA) as well as state school board associations across the country in honoring their representatives for their commitment to education.

“In our industry, we have the pleasure of working with many school board members and administrators across the country,” said Linda Burtwistle, president of First Student. “We see their commitment to serving their communities and helping students achieve the highest levels of education. We support the recognition of their hard work and dedication.”

School Board Recognition Month was created to recognize the contributions board members make to their communities and the public education system. A number of states take this time to honor school board members while others such as Minnesota, Iowa, Mississippi and New York pay tribute to their school board members later in the year.

According to the NSBA, there are more than 90,000 local school board members in the United States.
