Senior Vice President

Senior Vice President Jim Castelli oversees operations for First Student’s New England region, a territory that includes six states and more than 6,000 buses.

Jim has more than 32 years of student transportation experience beginning with his family business, Liberty Bus, which was acquired by Ryder Student Transportation and subsequently First Student in 1999. During this period, he served as senior contract manager responsible for all Connecticut operations. Jim held a Connecticut Driver Certification and was a frontline management trainer and facilitator. In 1993, he became region vice president responsible for overseeing operations along the east coast and also served on the Board of Directors of COSTA (Connecticut School Transportation Association). In 2004, Jim was promoted to the position of senior vice president of operations.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Keene State College.

Roger Moore
Senior Vice President

Senior Vice President Roger Moore oversees operations for First Student’s Central region, a territory that consists of nine states and more than 10,000 buses.

Before joining First Student, Roger served as the vice president of business development for Laidlaw’s Western Business Group. Prior to Laidlaw, he served as a region vice president and director of sales for Lucent Technologies Worldwide Services. Roger, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, served in the military for 20 years as a transportation corps officer where he held a variety of command and staff positions overseas.

Roger holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from West Point and a Master of Science degree in transportation management from Naval Postgraduate School.

Dave Armitt
Senior Vice President

Senior Vice President Dave Armitt oversees operations for First Student’s East region, a territory that includes 14 states and more than 10,000 buses. 

Dave began his career in the school bus industry with Laidlaw Transit in 1994 as director of operations for the Orange County District in Southern California. Prior to the FirstGroup acquisition of Laidlaw Transit, he held the position of vice president for its Mid-Atlantic region, which encompassed their operations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. In 2007, Dave was appointed to the position of region vice president of operations for First Student, and then promoted to the position of senior vice president.

Dave holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Rutgers University.

Liz Sanchez
Senior Vice President

Senior Vice President Liz Sanchez oversees operations for First Student’s Southwest region, a territory that consists of 13 states and more than 5,000 buses. 

Liz brings more than 27 years of experience in all aspects of multi-state management including operations, financials, business development, labor relations, fleet maintenance, new contract start-ups, change management, and facility management. 

Liz began her transportation career with Laidlaw Transit in the payroll department in 1988. In 1993 she transitioned to operations as a location manager and through subsequent promotions became vice president and general manager for the California and Arizona regions in 2002. In 2007, with First Student’s purchase of Laidlaw, Liz was appointed to the position of region vice president of operations and then later promoted to senior vice president.

Liz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the University of Phoenix. She received a National School Transportation Association Golden Merit Award in 2012 for her successful operating achievements.

Dave Harris
Senior Vice President

Senior Vice President Dave Harris oversees operations for First Student’s Eastern Canada region, a territory that includes six Canadian provinces and more than 5,500 buses. 

Dave has more than 20 years of transportation finance experience. He began his finance career with the public accounting firm of Ernst & Young. Dave received his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1987 and served numerous clients during his nine years in public accounting. He joined Laidlaw Inc. in 1992 as the manager of planning and analysis and went on to become controller of the Passenger Services division (which encompassed all North American school bus and transit services operations as well as Greyhound Canada). Dave moved into positions of increasing responsibility with Laidlaw leading up to its acquisition by FirstGroup. 

Dave holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University.

Senior Vice President

Senior Vice President Cal Hull oversees operations for First Student’s West region and Western Canada, a territory that includes nine states and six Canadian provinces and more than 7,500 buses. 

Cal began his career in the school bus industry in 1977 working for a regional contractor in Minnesota, where he held a variety of positions. In 1998, following the acquisition of the regional contractor by Ryder, Cal was appointed to the position of contract manager at Ryder’s Minneapolis location.

In 1992, Cal relocated to Seattle to open Ryder’s new Seattle operation. He was subsequently promoted to senior contract manager in 1996 and then region manager in 1998 based out of Portland, Oregon. With the 1999 purchase of Ryder by First Student, Cal became the region vice president of operations, and in 2007 he was promoted to the position of senior vice president.  

Cal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Northwestern. He was a 2006 National School Transportation Association Golden Merit Award winner.
